Rous launches its inaugural Community Grants Program
Rous County Council (Rous) has today opened applications for its Community Grants Program, providing funding support for local activities, programs or events in the Northern Rivers.
The program supports initiatives that align with Rous’ core functions and deliver clear social, cultural or environmental benefits to the community.

Funding will be considered for projects that are focused on improving the region’s catchments and waterways, weed biosecurity and bush regeneration programs, strengthening rural flood resilience, supporting drinking water education programs, or Aboriginal cultural initiatives.
The new program is offering grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 (excluding GST) to eligible organisations and groups across the Northern Rivers region.
Rous Brand and Engagement Manager, Casie Hughes, said the Community Grants Program has been established to support local organisations and business that share Rous’ goals for the region.
“We know our local community is doing valuable work across our region every day, and we’re proud to be able to contribute to their activities through this program,” Casie Hughes said.
“If you have a project that delivers positive environmental or social outcomes, I encourage you to apply and make the most of this funding opportunity.
“Grants of this nature can provide an additional boost to help bring an idea to life or take an existing initiative to the next stage.
“We’re looking forward to seeing a diverse range of applications that reflect the creativity, care and enthusiasm that our region is renowned for.”
Eligible applicants include organisations, incorporated not-for-profits, private businesses, schools and universities, sports clubs and associations located within the Ballina, Byron, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed local government areas. Applicants must also hold public liability insurance.
Rous General Manager, Phillip Rudd, said Rous is proud to play a role in supporting initiatives that make a genuine difference across the Northern Rivers through its Community Grants Program.
“This program allows us to back projects that strengthen environmental outcomes, provide education opportunities and support cultural initiatives that reflect our responsibility to the region we serve.”
Applications are open on the Rous website from Monday 1 June 2026 and close on Sunday 28 June 2026 at 11.59pm.
Further information, including application guidelines and eligibility details, is available on Rous’ website.
