What is biosecurity?
Biosecurity protects the environment, community and primary industries from the negative impacts of pests, diseases, weeds and contaminants.

What we do
We are the local authority responsible for managing the Biosecurity Act 2015 for NSW’s Northern Rivers region. Working with local stakeholders, we provide comprehensive and cost-effective control and management of targeted weeds in the region.
Our focus
Rous’ weed management program targets weeds currently classified in the prevention, eradication and containment stages. We continue to undertake strategic control projects for new and emerging weeds across the county. This includes inspection of high risk areas to ensure new weed incursions are detected and controlled early, before they are allowed to establish.
Our region
We’re working to protect the biodiversity of shires including the Tweed, Byron Bay, Ballina, Lismore City, Richmond Valley and Kyogle. Our work covers more than 10,000km2 from the Queensland border in the north to the Clarence Valley in the south and west out to Tenterfield Shire.
