Rous County Council (Rous) is pleased to announce that the Byron Bay Water Main Upgrade is complete, with drinking water now flowing through the new pipeline.
Commencing in August 2025, almost 1,000m of pipeline along Bangalow Road and Paterson Street was replaced as part of this important project set to enhance the town’s water supply capacity and reliability.

Originally installed in 1952, the water main has been upgraded from 200mm to 300mm in diameter, enabling higher volumes of water to meet increasing demand.
The Byron Bay Watermain Upgrade project was managed and funded by Rous as part of its Capital Works Delivery Program. It is just one example of how Rous is strengthening its infrastructure to ensure the region continues to receive reliable drinking water now and into the future.
Rous would like to thank the teams at Ledonne Constructions and Byron Shire Council, and especially the local community for their patience, friendly greetings while travelling past, and even providing the team with refreshments on a hot day. Your support was noticed and truly appreciated.
