Cr Elia Hauge
Position:
Byron Shire Council
Elia Hauge is a long-time local and was raised in the Northern Rivers. She’s an engineer, educator and environmentalist, and is a councillor on Byron Shire Council.
As an engineer, Elia specialises in water and sustainability. She has conducted research in climate adaptation and water security for regional communities, and lectured in sustainable urban infrastructure. In our community, Elia led Team Mullum in the Yes23 campaign, contributed to the Federal Community-led Resilience Team, and currently sit as a community member on Council’s Water and Sewer Advisory Committee. Elia is an active campaigner for the Greens – volunteering for Mandy and working on Tamara’s last campaign – and convenes Byron Greens and the Richmond Campaign Committee.
Elia’s priorities are to address the housing crisis, support community resilience and enable water security in the face of the climate crisis. These are interwoven challenges and she believes council must embed meaningful community participation to ensure our community is sustainable, liveable and resilient.
