Tour of Nightcap Water Treatment Plant

Nightcap Water Treatment PlantTake a tour of the Nightcap Water Treatment Plant where water from Rocky Creek Dam and the Wilsons River Source is treated.

The plant is situated beside Rocky Creek Dam, 200 metres above sea level in the Nightcap Range, and functions on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis with plant, machinery and personnel active across the site.

During plant tours, many of the maintenance and operational works are affected, so it is necessary to plan our activities around plant tours.

Plant visits are not available for young children.

To ensure that visits to the treatment plant are a safe and enjoyable experience, we advise the following conditions:

  • Plant tours are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.
  • Typically, tours take about 1 hour and must commence between 9am and 2.30pm.
  • Tours must be booked at least three weeks in advance (tour availability can vary due to operational needs).
  • Applications for tours are to be made in writing to Rous County Council.
  • Tour applications will be considered for students at Year 10 level and above only.
  • Due to site access restrictions larger tour groups will need to be divided into groups of 15 people or less.
  • One teacher per 15 children under 18 years of age is required.
  • The tour includes repeated stairways and there is limited wheelchair access available on site.
  • Participants are recommended to wear comfortable, enclosed walking shoes and a hat. High heel shoes are not permitted.
  • Visitors are advised to bring a water bottle, however food is not permitted or available on site.
  • Photography is not permitted on site.
